How to Connect Hatchable to Gemini Spark

Add Hatchable as a custom app in Gemini Spark and it can build a full app and put it online at its own URL. Setup is six screens, so this walks through every one.

What happens next

Step 1

Open Connected Apps in Spark

In Gemini, switch from Chat to Spark at the top of the left panel, then choose Connected Apps under Customize. Scroll to Custom apps for Spark.

Step 2

Paste the app link

Paste https://hatchable.com/mcp into Add a custom app link to get started and press Next. A dialog titled Set up a custom connected app repeats the link and warns that the app has not been reviewed by Google. Press Next again.

Step 3

Accept the risk notice

The Connect this MCP server dialog lists what Gemini can do with the server. Connect stays greyed out until you tick I understand and accept the security and privacy risks of connecting this custom app. Tick it, then press Connect.

Step 4

Link your Google account

Google shows a linking screen for [Custom] Hatchable. Press Continue, read the permissions, then press Agree and continue. The [Custom] prefix is how Google labels every unreviewed custom app, not something specific to Hatchable.

Step 5

Save the app

A Save your custom app dialog appears with an editable name (Hatchable by default) and the list of actions it found, shown as Available actions with a last-synced time. Press Connect. The Hatchable card now appears under Custom apps for Spark with its toggle on.

Step 6

Describe a task

Spark is task based rather than chat based. In Describe a task, say what you want in plain language and name Hatchable, for example "build me a simple countdown to new years site on hatchable". Gemini creates a task, asks permission to use each tool, and builds.

What to expect before you start

Setup is longer than most connectors: six screens, two of which are security notices. That is normal for any custom MCP app in Gemini, and nothing has gone wrong if you see a third or fourth confirmation. Two places people commonly stop:

  • Connect looks broken. It is disabled on purpose until you tick the risk checkbox directly above it.
  • Google calls us [Custom] Hatchable. That prefix is applied to every custom app that Google has not reviewed. The URL on the screen should read https://hatchable.com/mcp, and that is the thing worth checking.

Spark is a task surface, not a chat

Most AI clients connect a tool to a conversation. Spark works in tasks: you describe one, it appears in the Recent list with a status, and it moves from Needs input to Complete as it runs. So there is no new chat to open. Type what you want into Describe a task and let it work.

You do not need to type the app handle. Naming Hatchable in an ordinary sentence is enough to route the task to it. The card also carries the handle @Hatchable if you prefer to be explicit.

Approving tool use

While the task runs, Gemini asks before each action it wants to take. A card appears with the Hatchable icon and a line like Let Gemini use "create project" from Hatchable, an expandable row showing the exact tool, and Deny and Allow buttons. The task pauses at Needs input until you answer.

Keep the tab handy for the first build so the task is not sitting waiting on you. A build that creates a project, writes files and deploys will ask more than once.

What a finished build looks like

A working run ends with a summary rather than a wall of code. A real one produced "I built and deployed a New Year Countdown site on Hatchable", a list of what the site does, and a Live Links section with the project URL and a preview link valid for 30 minutes.

New projects are private by default, so opening the link in a browser that is not signed in will ask for sign-in. You can switch a project to public in its settings in the Hatchable console whenever you want it open to everyone.

Frequently asked

Why is the Connect button greyed out?
It stays disabled until you tick I understand and accept the security and privacy risks of connecting this custom app, which sits just above it in the same dialog.
Why does Google call it [Custom] Hatchable?
Google adds that prefix to any custom app it has not reviewed itself. It is not a warning about Hatchable specifically. Check that the server URL reads https://hatchable.com/mcp and you are in the right place.
Do I have to type @Hatchable?
No. Naming Hatchable in a normal sentence is enough, for example "build me a countdown site on hatchable". The handle @Hatchable works too if you would rather be explicit.
Will it ask permission for every action?
Gemini asks before it uses a tool, and the task waits at Needs input until you press Allow. A first build involves several tools, so expect more than one prompt and stay on the tab while it runs.
Why does my new site ask visitors to sign in?
Projects start private. Open the project in the Hatchable console and change visibility to public when you want anyone to be able to load it.
What if the list of actions looks out of date?
The saved app records the actions it found along with a last-synced time. If Hatchable adds tools later, reopen the app from Connected Apps so Gemini can pick them up.
