Design details

A menu that is actually typeset

Four groups, dotted leaders, tabular numerals, and a vermilion asterisk on anything that changes with the market. It reads like the printed menu because it is laid out like one.

The counter, at one price

A flipped ink-black section with the omakase price set at 168 pixels, the nights, both seatings, the deposit terms, and this week's twelve courses in a numbered two-column list.

Six sakes, set as a table

Name, a one-line tasting note, glass and bottle prices in a real table with right-aligned numerals. Highballs and beer sit beneath it in two tidy columns.

An honest reservations policy

The room is walk-in and the site says so three times, with the expected wait. The counter is a phone call. No booking engine, no embed, nothing billed monthly.

Vertical labels as a signature

Section numbers run top to bottom in the left gutter in vertical writing mode, a nod to Japanese signage that steps politely out of the way on small screens.

Paper that scrolls well

Sticky photo columns beside the menu and the drinks, a staggered two-photo pair for the room, scroll reveals that switch off under reduced motion, and a nav that turns to paper the moment you leave the hero.
